Why New Brunswick is a Cybersecurity Leader

Lastwall's recent $16 million financing round, including NBIF's $1.5 million investment, marks a significant moment for the company and reflects growing confidence in both its technology and its future. But it also highlights something bigger: the growing strength of New Brunswick's cybersecurity ecosystem.
Cybersecurity is no longer a niche sector. It is a national priority, an economic opportunity, and a foundational part of how governments, businesses and critical infrastructure operate.
As demand grows for trusted cybersecurity solutions, New Brunswick is showing up as a leader in the sector.
The province has built a foundation that includes experienced founders, world-class research expertise, specialized talent, military and defence assets, and a growing network of companies developing solutions for global markets.
That momentum is reflected in NBIF's own portfolio. Today, six cybersecurity companies represent approximately 14 per cent of our active investments, accounting for nearly $6 million in equity investment. Together, they are creating highly skilled jobs, developing trusted technologies and helping establish New Brunswick as a recognized hub for cybersecurity expertise.
What makes companies like Lastwall exciting is their ability to solve complex problems, attract customers in demanding markets, and build technology that can compete on a global stage while continuing to grow from New Brunswick. Lastwall's work in cybersecurity, defence and critical infrastructure is an example of the type of company increasingly emerging from our province.
