Breakthru returns to help New Brunswick entrepreneurs build investment-ready technology startups

FREDERICTON, N.B. – The New Brunswick Innovation Foundation (NBIF) has opened applications for Breakthru, the province's premier startup pitch competition.

Designed for ambitious, early-stage entrepreneurs, Breakthru helps participants transform promising ideas into investment-ready technology startups through practical learning, mentorship, pitch development, and exposure to investors and the broader startup community.

Throughout the four-month program, participants develop critical startup skills, receive guidance from experienced mentors and advisors, and refine their business opportunities before competing live at the Breakthru Finale in March 2027.

This year, participants will have the opportunity to compete for more than $300,000 in NBIF equity investment and in-kind prizing, subject to due diligence and investment approval requirements.

"Some of New Brunswick's most successful technology companies started as ideas with a founder willing to take a chance," said Jeff White, President & CEO of NBIF. "Breakthru helps entrepreneurs take that next step. It's an opportunity to learn, challenge assumptions, build valuable connections, and accelerate the journey from idea to company. We're excited to see what this year's founders will bring to market."

The competition is open to eligible entrepreneurs across New Brunswick and includes province-wide outreach, partner engagement, and bilingual support throughout the recruitment process.

Applications open September 21 and close November 9.
