Eligibility Criteria
All publicly funded academic institutions and research organizations in New Brunswick can apply for funding under the RTI. Positions funded under the RTI must add to the number of existing staff, and only full-time positions are considered. Candidates for the position must be graduates of a recognized college or university, and cannot be students at any learning institution during the tenure of their employment. All disciplines are considered, with the priority given to on applications that align with one of the Foundation’s strategic industries and demonstrate value-added partnerships between academic or research institutions and private sector companies.
RTI proposals are additionally evaluated according to the following criteria:
- Scientific and technical merit of the research program(s) in which the technician will be involved.
- Research program(s) relevant to the strategic industries identified by the NBIF.
- Potential for commercialization and economic impact for the Province of New Brunswick.
- Expertise and track record of the main researchers who will supervise the work of the technician.
- Expected contribution of the technician to the research program(s).
- Funding and infrastructure available for the research program(s).
A review committee will select successful applications. The review committee will be comprised of representatives of NBIF and of the Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour. Funding is awarded to research organizations through a competitive process. Proof of matching funds for the three year term and a commitment to maintain the position thereafter is required by NBIF. - Proposal submission deadline 5:00 PM ADT June 15, 2010
- Review of proposals July and August, 2010
- Decisions announced September 2, 2010
