Research Innovation Fund Start-up Grants

Start-up Grants

Attracting the right talent is imperative for all organizations focused on innovation, and today, the competition for that talent is global. The RIF provides funding for hiring outstanding professors and researchers, and investing in some of the resources they will need to succeed.

Start-up grants are awarded up to $100,000. To enter the review process, up to 50% (or less) of the total funds requested can be allocated to the candidate’s first-year salary. Matching funds can include existing funding attached to the candidate, paid release time, in-kind contributions, and contributions by other funding sources. Start-up grants are advanced to the applicant organization only after the candidate has accepted a tenure-track employment offer, and must be utilized within one year of the date disbursed.

To meet the eligibility criteria of the RIF, organizations that apply for start-up grants must demonstrate the candidate’s potential to develop innovations that fit with one of the Foundation’s strategic industries.
