Research Innovation Fund Emerging Projects

Emerging Projects

An emerging project is one that is at its earliest stage—basically an idea that has the potential to become an innovation. Funding from this component of the RIF can be used to assist in the preparation of major grant proposals, business cases, securing intellectual property, making infrastructure investments, and more.

Maximum funding for emerging projects is $25,000 per application, and limited to a maximum of 50% of the total cost of the project. Matching funds can include cash, the value of paid release time, in-kind contributions, and contributions from other funding sources.

Projects that are accepted for the review process must meet the general eligibility criteria of the RIF and fit with one of the Foundation’s strategic industries. Recipients have up to one year from the decision date to meet the conditions of the Foundation’s offer. Funds must be expended within one year of the date disbursed unless otherwise agreed to by the Foundation.
