Research Funding Research Assistantship Initiative

Research Assistantship Initiative

Balancing the demands of research work requires many different kinds of support. Whether it’s organizing data or performing technical tasks, funding from our Research Assistantships Initiative [RAI] can put your best students to work for you. Provided together with the New Brunswick Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training & Labour, the RAI is beneficial for both professors and the students.

Assistantships for graduate students are awarded up to $10,000 per year, for a maximum of two years. Undergraduate assistantships are granted up to $5,000 for one year only. RAI contributions can be used to top up other funding sources and can be allocated to one or more students. Funding is advanced to the college or university first, and then disbursed to the student(s) in the form of a salary, fellowship or stipend. All funds must be used within one year unless otherwise agreed to by the foundation. RAI funding is not transferrable to other colleges or universities.

To enter the review process, applications must meet the eligibility criteria of the RAI and fit with one of the Foundation’s strategic industries.

The January 2010 competition is now closed.
