Cutting Carbon
Natural gas is basically carbon and hydrogen stuck together. When it’s burned it releases carbon dioxide that’s harmful to the atmosphere. What if you could take some of the carbon out before it’s burned? That’s what Atlantic Hydrogen does with their CarbonSaver technology.
Taking out carbon leaves more hydrogen behind. Since hydrogen burns hotter, it produces even more energy. Pollution? Zero. And the carbon stays safely solid. Get it? Now if only the makers of natural gas appliances and engines could catch up, they could take out even more.

Potatoes, Plastics & Power
Every year Canadians consume 2.2 billion liters of bottled water. Yes, BILLION. In bottles made of plastic that lasts basically forever. And what doesn’t get recycled ends up underground or in the sea. That’s just for water, and in Canada. Now imagine everything else, everywhere else.
Wouldn’t it be great if we could just harmlessly dissolve plastic containers when we’re done with them, and in a way that benefits the earth? New Brunswick Community College Instructor Kevin Shiell knows how. He makes plastic bottles from potato waste that will disintegrate in your compost in less than six months.

Future Fish
Most of the fish you eat today comes from fish farms. Raised to ensure maximum health, growth, and quality within a confined space. And to do that, modifications are sometimes required.
What happens if those fish escape and reproduce in the wild? Dr. Tillmann Benfey at the University of New Brunswick has eliminated the need for that question. Well, where his fish are concerned. He’s found a way to reproduce fish that are sterile. If they do escape into the wild, there will be no offspring. But they might make for a good underwater feast.
