Who do you think will win?

Presented by NBIF and Cox & Palmer, Breakthru is a bi-annual competition that gives entrepreneurs the resources they need to start a business. The next Breakthru competition will launch in the Fall of 2012 ending with a major live event in March 2013. At the 2011 competition, $285,000 in cash investments and professional services were awarded to three of our six finalists.

GRAND PRIZE - SceneSharp

Jordan deWinter | Fredericton

All over the World, the video surveillance market struggles with three major problems: poor image quality—especially at night, identifying what’s moving and where, and massive volumes of storage hungry, uneventful video. Scene Sharp’s camera lens and chip technology automatically detects motion, identifies the 3D location of a moving object, communicates data about its size and shape, and improves image quality by at least three times of what is currently offered in the market.

SECOND PRIZE - ZapTap

Yan Simard | Fredericton

Information about products can be found in a number of ways, like in books or on the Web. But rarely is it available where you’re using that product, when you need it the most. AirMe’s technology allows manufacturers to place small electronic tags inside products that, when you wave your smartphone near it, instantly displays the product knowledge you’re looking for.

SECOND PRIZE - Enovex

Scott Walton | Saint John

Climate change has exponentially impacted our planet’s environmental stability and natural habitats where we work, play and live. A typical coal plant emits one million tons of carbon dioxide every year. Enovex’s carbon capture technology for coal plants can remove 90 percent of the carbon dioxide found in flue gasses. The world’s first hybrid membrane-adsorbent system, its annual cost is expected to be less than the taxes some coal plants pay on their carbon emissions.
